The Longest Night
Every June 21 the Longest Night is celebrated in Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego, with a party to honour the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. This means that it is the longest night of the year and, therefore, the day is shorter. In this area, it gets dark around 5pm. From the sunset, different shows and events are organized in the different cultural centers of the region. There is also music and partying and, around Encerrada Bay, there are vivid illuminations. The night ends with colourful fireworks.
