Named Green Capital of Europe in 2016, Ljubljana boasts of being one of the most sustainable and responsible cities in the continent. Its leafy parks make up the green heart of the city, where locals and tourists enjoy nature and tranquility. The banks of the Ljubljanica River is another of its great attractions, where many of the cafes and restaurants are located, which, with the arrival of good weather, are full of terraces and lively atmosphere. The center of the city is characterized by its architecture, designed by the architect Jože Plečnik and considered as a work of art. Some of the most emblematic places to enjoy it are the Križanke theater, the three Tromostovje bridges, the Levstik square, the covered markets and the National University Library, among others.
In the center of Ljubljana is the castle. It offers a journey through the history of the city and you can climb up the tower to get the best views of the capital of Slovenia. Other essential places that deserve a visit are the Shoemakers Bridge, which is adorned with hanging shoes; the Mestni square,in the old town; or Preseren Square, named after the Slovenian writer of the same name and which serves as a meeting place for locals.
